Portrait Commissions

Thank you for your interest in my art! I started drawing portraits in my early teens, learning by experimenting with different media and styles. Portraiture is my oldest profession and it remains one of my favorite things in the world. Studying faces and noticing the subtle expressions, the details that make each person unique is a beautiful, meditative process.
I draw from photo references or real life, depending on availability of the model. My preferred tools are pencils, coal, pens, ink, acrylic paint, and a variety of digital tools.

Below you will see the process of ordering a portrait, and a small selection from my portfolio.

PROCESS
1

Contact

Thank you for considering me for a commission! Please reach out to me via the Contact Form on my website and explain what you have in mind. Be as detailed as you can:
  • Digital or physical artwork?
  • Should it be printable?
  • Size?
  • Subject?
  • Color or black and white?
  • Style? A realistic artwork will cost more than a stylized one. A more detailed artwork will cost more than a sketch.
  • Is there is a deadline or is this an open-ended project that I can fit around my other deadlines?
2

Initial Discussion

I will reply to your request so we can discuss your vision and clarify details. For a portrait commission I will need photo references, or if you are in the Copenhagen (DK) area, I also occasionally do in-person portrait sessions.
This is the step where we find what fits best for your preferences, time and budget. You will not be paying for materials used for the artwork unless you need something exclusive like gold leaf etc.
3

Pricing and Agreement

Once we agree on a price, I will draft a very simple agreement that we both sign.
This ensures that all the terms of our collaboration are clear and that there are no misunderstandings.
It also makes it secure for both of us to work online between different countries.
4

Payment and Kickstart

I typically ask for 50% of the commission price upfront, or if the project is unusually large, we can also agree on smaller installments over a longer time-period.
Unfortunately, I’ve heard of bad experiences with clients who refuse to pay after the artist finishes their artwork, so this is a necessary measure to safeguard my time.
As soon as I receive the first payment, the process is kickstarted.
5

Process and Feedback

I will start working and send you images of how the artwork is progressing.
You will receive at least 3 updates during the process. This will give you an opportunity to comment on what you like and don’t like, so that I can make any changes according to your wishes.
6

Final Payment and Delivery

When the project is finished and you’re satisfied with the outcome, the remaining 50% of the price is transferred and I deliver your artwork.
And, should you need it, I’m also happy to make a Certificate of Authenticity, which is a document detailing that the artwork is an original piece made by me (useful for insurance purposes).
